Riden it may times two-up....you will not have a problem...first time I rode it a rocket passed me on the inside.....had to change my shorts...LOL...stay away from the weekends is the best advice.
have ridden the dragon 4 times. always 2 up. have never had any problem with sport bikes or cars. always have ridden early in the week though. but as previously posted, there are other roads that are as good if not better than the dragon.
Road it 2 up on my custom Road Glide 4 years ago. I'm pretty aggressive rider and we stayed in the front of the pack even though we were the only 2 up bike in the group. Funny thing... wife is normally pretty chatty, but not a peep while we rode the dragon - both ways
Every time I have ridden it I was two up, no problems. Ride your own ride, speed limit is 35 for a reason and I have the jiffy stand bracket and right floor board scars to remind me of that!
It's fun a few times but there are much better and more enjoyable roads up in that area, Dragon is just the main tourist trap of the overall area for bikes (and cars).
Great loop ride (when not crowded) is from Robbinsville out 129 to 74 then back through Bryson City/Cherokee and over 441 towards Gatlinburg, turn left at the visitors center down the river road and back across the Foot Hills Pkwy and then back up over either the Dragon or Cherohala back to Robbinsville.
I rode it on a dresser two up, and probably drug the floorboards a little more than if I was solo. Other than that, not a big deal. IMHO it doesn't deserve all the hype it gets, but I still enjoy riding it. It is a fun road.
Just got back from there last week. We seen alot of 2 ups on the Dragon but mostly on thursday and friday. Saturday we seen some 2 up riders but they were in groups. We didnt ride it, but drove it, wishing we had our bikes, and not on a family vacation. Maybe 1 day we will go back and ride it.
Rode it yesterday no problems. The Cherohala is a much nicer ride, and a lot more scenic.
We did the whole loop of Dragon to Cherohala then home. The Cherohala is still our favorite
ride.
