I think it depends on what kind of GPS you have...I know the Delorme GPS has down loadable maps but that requires a subscription of $30.00 a year. I'm not sure they will work on other companies GPS's.

If you meant downloading routes to a GPS, most major mapping programs can do this. I used google maps to plan my trip to Mountainfest. Picked out all the routes and stops I wanted. Then I downloaded it straight to my Garmin. It was easy.

You have to have a GPS that will take routes. Not many will do that. Then any map site like MapQuest or the HOG ride planner will allow you to plan the route, save it to the web site, email it to a friend, or download it to you GPS. Once in the GPS you have to turn on the GPS and import the file you loaded. When designing the route if you are not sticking to interstates zoom in for a much deatil on the map program as possible. I thought I was doing this only to find that when I imported the route and followed it sometimes the GPS had me traveling down the middle of a river instead of the road beside the river. I also found out the hard way there is no easy way in my GPS, Garmin 755T, to reverse a route once you arrive at your destination. I have to reverse the route in MapQuest or HOG planner and download it to the GPS.
