I'm planning a trip to Helen Georgia this weekend, Octoberfest begins in this Bavarian town with loats of festivities, German food, beer, and music. Do you have any suggestions of must see or roads that must be ridden?
Lots of nice riding around Helen, hard to go wrong. Went two weekends ago and did literally 6 miles of stop and sit (know because of the mile markers) getting into town. Arrived approx 1:00. BTW we came in from the south, ifn that helps!!! Just a heads up, I'd plan on getting into town "early." Good time / great eye candy!!!
Starting in Helen going north on 17/75
take a left heading south on Alt 75
a right on 348
left on 180
left on 129/19
right getting back on 180
get to Suches (you can either go right or left here, I usually go left)
after taking a left on 60 take a right on Loving Rd
take the appalachian hwy east
when you get to Blairsville take a right down 129/19 south
head all the way down to the split and take 129
Jump back on 75 and go back north to helen.
THEbub, I took your advice. It was a great trip, the roads were in good shape. Where 75 crossed a mountain there were plenty of tight curves, even hairpin curves, best of all they were 3 lanes on the mountain so you did not have to get stuck behind a matorhome. North Georgia has some great roads and mountain views, as well as Western NC. The people in Helen were very biker friendly, the town had several good German restaurants, and with Octoberfest there were many good but expensive micro beer selections.
