As far as lane splitting, not sure about how legal it is down here, but as stated before, if it were legal, it's not the smartest thing to do!!! I don't know if Evel Knievel would be brave enough to try that!!! LOL Whatever you do, have a good time. You'll see a lot and have a great experience. But like I said, make sure to pack the rain gear. We had a pretty big storm this afternoon. Lightning was striking too dang close for comfort.

I am down until Oct. 12. I am planning on getting a bike for three days. Waiting until the later part of my trip to get it. Going with a Streetglide as I am too short for Road kings stock seat. Is the wildlife bad on 41? Snakes , gators? I hear you about not riding it at night. Thanks again for the info.

41/tamiami trail from end of naples side civilization to miami side 997/krome which is the start of civilization.
Road is two lanes..limited DRAINAGE in case of storms and one lane up/one lane down....zero to no illumination of road...one real main gas station at route 29 crossing and maybe two others that are sometimes open...most times closed...There are a few site/viewing areas that have toilet facilities...About 65-70 miles to cross I think the route 29 crossing might be the only traffic signal during the ride and it is a blinking one for the most part..wild life is kinda neat if you like..plenty of gators in the canals most times of year..plenty of birds..some fish in canals...only seen small dead snakes on road...nothing that will really wow you...
Done the ride at night BUT it is desolate at night and the bike/you gets covered in stinky swamp bugs..I would avoid at night or if weather is bad..puddles develop and the two lane situation makes for some splashes....During the day and in good weather it is rather neat...
west bound is nicer since canal is on your side and you can view some gators...
If your thing is speed take alligator alley...very straight/very boring/high speed and two rest/toilet stops and one gas station(about 75 miles across) if i want be relaxed then i take 41...try google earth.. Google Earth lets you see the satellite image of the area and you can "drive" area.

just a note: alligator alley is I-75 toll road $2.50 each way that is about 75 miles long...from Naples to west Broward county...mile marker 101? to about mile marker 25?...very difficult to see any wild life on that road since there are very tall fences most of the way and posted speeds are 70 mph with most individuals exceeding by plus 10 mph.

Default Trip was awesome

Thanks to all for the tips on this thread. The trip went smooth and no problems anywhere. Picked up the Heritage Softail in Sarasota and from there to Indian Shores over the Skyway bridge( $1 toll). Stayed for the evening in Carousel Motel, went to the beach, Mahuffer's bar and dinner at Crabby Bill's. Good night and left early about 7am. Back over the Skyway bridge and down to 41 South. Straight from there out to Naples, stopped for gas and drinks. Riding 41 south again I made it to Krome Ave. Right on this road and straight to Homestead. Last chance saloon on the right hand side and then the first key mileage signs appear. I arrived around 6pm in Key West. The bridges were great. Stayed for one night in Key West and had a great time. Definitely worth the drive in my eyes.
