Question Touring Texas in Decemebr

Doing some trip planning here. We're looking at the airport situation with porno scanners and perverted TSA agents groping passengers and figured we start taking the train or driving. Then, we'd rent a bike at destination. It looks like we could be in Dallas or Amarillo in 2 days. I'm wondering what the weather is typically like in Texas in December. How far north can you go and still be OK? Do you get snow? If so, where?

I used to live in Sherman, TX, near the OK line due north of Dallas. December weather can be pretty variable -- sleet/snow to 80F. Your best bet is just check weather.com for the 10-day forecast.

Thanx. Looks like Houston would be a better bet. I guess I'll just enter a few places in southern TX and see how far north I can go.

Yeah usually no problems with December weather in Houston as the highs are in the mid 60's with lows in the high 40's. Although it can rain some and there is the chance of getting a cold front coming down from Canada you could still ride unlike north Texas.

I have family in Rochester and have made that trip a number of times, so yeah you could do it with two very long days of driving. You could shave off 35-45 miles by renting from a dealership in the northern suburbs like Conroe, Tx or the Woodlands.

Dallas area wx changes all the time, as stated before. But in general pretty cold here in December. Houston is much better.

Well, we defintiely want to visit San Antonio. Looking at the Amtrak schedule, we could be there in 2 days. They also have a Fly and Ride (though we wouldn't be flying). Thanx for the tip.

San Antonio would be a good place to start. The southern half of Texas does not get snow very often, especially as early as December. There is some great riding north and west of San Antonio (search on Three Sisters or Three Twisted Sisters) in what is called the Hill country.

It can get cold and windy in that part of the state though. If it does, move south and east towards Corpus Christi and Houston. The closer to the coast, the warmer it usually is but the roads straighten out quite a bit in the coastal plains.

No guarantees anywhere in Tx in December.
It gets plenty cold here too contrary to popular belief.
Big Bend/Rio Grande Valley would be your safest bet but like I said, no guarantees.
It's 34 degrees in Waco this mornng.
