Thinking of doing a trip there this spring. I would ride down but I don't trust the weather that time of year riding from Canada. Probably going to hook up with a bud and throw 3 bikes in his trailer. Me, him and my wife's bikes. We have a place to stay, his Dads, so we'll be set as far as that goes.
The date for this years rally are Apr.27 to May 1st. My question is this, Is it worth it to stay the whole 5 days? Can you do and see enough in 3 days? I've been to Sturgis but it's probably not the same thing or is it.
It's easy to spend a couple days at the event checking out the vendors and doing test rides. You can also spend at least a couple days riding the area to see the sights. I've been several times and this year was the first time it wasn't hot t-shirt riding weather.
Keep in mind that although AZ is a non helmet state, NV requires helmets and they will write you up even for crossing the river into Laughlin without a helmet.
In some ways it's the same as Sturgis. When you are downtown it's crowded, prices are jacked up and you need to watch out for the drunks and idiots. Expect heavy police presence too. Once out of town there is some nice riding in the area. Ride to Oatman and feed the burros, or down to Lake Havasu to the London Bridge (yeah, the real London Bridge, they took it apart, shipped it over and put it back together). I've been to Laughlin a couple times, had a lot of fun, but these days I try to avoid the crowds and just ride.
