Default Cold Area Biker Summer Ride Plans

Like most in the north I'm months away from riding. So to help my mood I plan my summer trip. I don't go into detail but I do some research on areas of interest. This summer it's off to the Rockies. Going to start in Arizona, then zig zag north to Montana. No set routes or schedules, just wing it. Prolly end up at Sturgis, then back home.

You are like me too cold and snow, salt sand on roads up here and snowmobile trails are not good. So just figuring out were to go in summer. Leaning to Washington state but how knows.

If you like riding in really hot weather then going to Arizona in July will be right down your alley.

My preference for that time of year would be Colorado (Rocky Mt Nat'l Park, Mt. Evans, Pike's Peak, etc.) then northwest to Wyoming (Tetons, Yellowstone Nat'l Park, Cody, Bear Tooth Pass) and the east for the rally in Sturgis.

We've done the southwest in the summer months and we'll never do that again. June is as late as I'd consider riding there and that may even be pushing it a bit

Later on we chose to trailer the bikes to NM and done those same rides in late September AZ, NM and UT and it was a much nicer ride, even though we had to bundle up on a few days, especially in the early and late parts of the day.

I hear you, been doing the same thing trying to pass the time. We are leaving on 8/13/14 and thinking about stoping at the HD museum in Milwaukee then a night with family in Minnesota from there we have 3 weeks left until I have to be back. Montana, Alberta at least up to Jasper then Idaho, Wyoming and South Dakota are on our list. The only schedule we have is the day we leave, the day I need to be back and an oil change along the way maybe in Idaho

I'm likely heading to Colorado myself this year. But I'm looking at early September. Anyway, there are 22 paved passes that are over 10,000'. They form sort of a double figure eight with very little backtracking. There would also be a bunch more in the 8 to 9 thousand foot range along the way. I've been over around half but never went out there with a goal of hitting all 22. Sounds like a good plan to stay cool.

If you want more details shoot me a PM.
