I'm sure a few of you have traveled the great mother road from different points along the way. I'm thinking of starting in Illinios and just ride as far as I feel like going. What are your takes on this road, is it worth it... Are the roads in good shape...would you go all the way to the west coast if time allows...etc?
I"d welcome any thoughts and ideas.
Thanx
A lot has changed and some places have closed due to everything that has occurred in the last 20 years, but I would research your route. There's some really good diners and interest points along the way. I haven't been back in IL in 10 years except to attend a family funeral, but it would probably be a long cool cruise instead of hauling up 55. Check this link for some info http://www.historic66.com/ or here.
If I had the time, I would definitely ride up from Southern IL, Diners Drives and Dives with that Fieri dude from the food network showed some good spots to stop to grab a bite. Wish I had the time....and was back in state.... Go CUBS!

You are welcome to join me if the plan is right!
