I definitely like the camping hammock for moto-camping. They pack small and light and are pretty comfortable. But then again we never have a problem finding trees in the midwest.

Most campgrounds have concrete tables. I have tied to the table and the back of my bike before. i think my sag was only inches from the ground but it worked, chock behind the bike wheel.
Usually trees are no issue, but some parks do not like hammocks. Won't let you tie to trees.
That said, I love my hammock. Need the tarp for over, and if you do it in the cold, need some foam or a good under quilt. You will get cold quick with the air flow beneath.

Not a fan of any tent scenario that gets attached to the bike. What if you get to camp before dinner and you want to setup your site but still go to town for dinner, or some other reason. Now you can't because your "site" needs the bike to stay put. Same issue if you were at the same site for multiple days but doing some day riding.

But it does look nice.

I don't think I'd like this style hammock either.. just as soon pack a small tent & sleeping bag it were me... And believe it or not, the wife is wanting to go for a short weekend of tent camping on the scoot maybe next summer. Getting tired of our permanent site after 25 yrs of it & thinking maybe time for a change? But it is handy to just jump on the bike & get there with everything already in place!

Hennessy Hammocks https://hennessyhammock.com/# make for GREAT camping hammocks as I've used one on a 7-day "man trip" into the Boundary waters in Norther Minnesota. While they DO require two trees to tie off on they include full zipper and rain fly. I slept in one during a long night of rain and stayed perfectly dry. They pack small and light which is perfect for motorcycles. Keep in mind that your back-side will get cold in cooler temperatures so an small mattress is still recommended.

It's interesting to see this thread revived after 6 1/2 years of dormancy. In the intervening years I have purchased a couple of hammocks and discovered that my kids quite enjoy them. Me; not so much.

It does take a few extra minutes to set up an REI half dome plus tent, and it takes more space on the bike, but I just don't sleep comfortably in a hammock. It puts to much pressure on my shoulders -- maybe a combination of the width of my shoulders and my weight.

we went camping this year with a guy that bought a hammock just for the camping trip. There were two trees that were situated apart just perfect, he got his hammock setup just fine...it was an expensive one too. He spent both nights in his truck instead. Very uncomfortable after a while. Those things arent comfortable as far as im concerned, i tried laying in it and after a few minutes i wanted out. I cant imagine all night in one.
