Taking a long run solo from LA to Nashville to meet up with my bro. Blast east for the Smokies then due west to Colorado Springs. Out of there we are headed to the 82 and Independence Pass up to Glenwood Springs. From there he heads south and I go west.
Wife and I are taking two weeks this summer to ride Colorado and eastern Utah. Independance Pass came highly recommended and will be along our route. I am a little anxious about all the mountain riding, being a flat-lander and all. Plus my wife will be on her trike, so I will be constantly keeping an eye on her. Should be an interesting trip though, and we are really looking forward to it.
I've posted several prospective routes through Colorado so if you have time to search you'll find some great rides. There are a couple passes in CO that'll frighten some people but the best advice I can give is to just take it slow and easy. You're wife will be fine on the trike, just be sure to keep your eyes on the road ahead of you.
I did it back on Memorial Day weekend in 2006.
It was really cold .. I wouldn't recommend it till at least June.
But even in July it's chilly up there.
Mt Evans was below freezing and the thin air makes it worst.
But the views are worth the trip up.
Can anyone comment on the ride out of Gleenwood Springs to Dinosaur NP via HWY 13 to HWY40?. Afterwords I need to get over eventually to I-15. I see there are a few different options like the HWY 40 on to HWY 191 on down to the I-70.
one78shovel,
Can't comment on 13 but two weeks ago I took I70 from Glenwood Springs to Loma, then took 139 north toward Dinasaur. 139 was a real nice ride at 6:30 in the morning. The only real issue with 139 was a mudslide. Road was cleared but rain could change things.
191 north from Vernal was really nice. If south is like north, it should be a good ride for you.

My wife and I just got back from over 4000 miles through the mountains in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. Needless to say it was great. We stayed in Glenwood Springs and then went up 13 and 40 to Dinosaur. Rt 13 was a pleasant surprise. 40 is so-so. Nice scenery and little traffic. Dinosaur was a wet day for us so we didn't get to see a whole lot. We stayed in Vernal and the went up around Flaming Gorge up to Jackson Wy. We rode up 191 and then went on the west side and up 44. Nice ride. Not sure which way you are going but if it is south on 15 you could then get back there through the Wasatch mts.
