Hey all, we are looking into riding from southeastern NC, Jacksonville and riding to the Pocono's in late May to mid June this would be our first trip there. Are there any must see/must ride areas. Also any Mom and Pop type lodging, we always stay at a Mom and Pop's hotel when we go to Maggie Valley, NC we really enjoy the small town family feeling. Thanks in advance.
I would make sure to hit the easter side of the state from New Hope up to Easton. I think the road is River Road. It connects with 611 and the ride is right along the Delaware River. Cool bar up in Easton on the river called Riverside Tavern.

32,611 up thru the Delaware Water Gap, great road it follows the old barge canal.
It starts at the I 95 exit.....don't forget to go up 209 and possibly hit 97 for a day ride (Port Jervis,Hancock)
Here is one Pa. riders thoughts about the Pocono,s. All the folks from NYC, Newark, and other congested areas east of these mountains have decided to relocate or vacation in these mountains. And with them there is the usual uncivil and unknowledgeable road manners. I live on the western side of these mountains and ride east several times yearly. West Virginia is great and around the time you talk of Morgantown has one of the great rallys.
The best riding in Pa. starts west of I 81.
Rethinking, I retract most of the above. There is more traffic east of 81 in the Poconos, but there are also some nice rides. I am a transplanted NYC rider and glad to be away from there.

Gotta agree with paguy. Poconos is a toilet. NYC traffic. Puts me in a bad mood when I have to drive my car to see accounts there. You can do better. Do you have family or friends that you're going to see? If not, don't even bother with it. If you want great rides & scenery, go up 15 from Harrisburg to Mansfield, and then west on 6. You can get over toward OH & work your way back south. The best riding in the state is the NW 1/4 of PA. Almost anything west of 15.
Don't forget, this year marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, from SC to PA there are some great sites to visit. If nothing else, you need to ride Gettysburg Nat'l Park. It's worth the side trip and only 30 minutes from the York Plant (or what's left of it!)
If you do make it up to Port Jervis, ride Hawk's Nest. You'll find the roads on the Jersy side to be excellent for riding. Just watch out for the Bears, they really don't care how much noise you make.
