Anyone live in or near Saltville, Va. Would like to know if the Blue Heron Resort is a decent place to stay for a night. Thinking of riding down Rt 42 from Woodstock, Va to Saltville and then over into NC. Thanks for the help.

Not living there now but did and have relatives in area and will try and check further for you. It is just north of town off 91 which is the main road through Saltville. Nice small town, with only a couple of restaurant choices. However, if you go over the mountain on 107 to Chilhowie there is much more of a choice. Chilhowie, Marion or Abingdon may have more choices of B&B's and Abington and Marion will have many motel, hotel choices.

The roads in the area area all twisty. 91 twists through the valley into Saltville.

Haven't stayed there nor am I familiar with it other than looking on the web after reading your post.

There are several beautiful routes you can take. When you hit Route 460W from Route 42W, stay on 460 to Route 61 in Narrows. Take that scenic route along Wolf Creek to Tazewell, head down Main Street and when you get to Frog Level, turn left on Route 16. You will cross three beautiful twisty mountains, Clinch, Little Brushy, and Big Walker, ending up in Marion. You can also reach Marion by staying on Route 42 all the way to the intersection of Route 16, where you still get to cross Big Walker Mountain and ride into Marion. You will ride by Hungry Mother State Park, which has a pretty lake. In town, The Francis Marion Hotel is a great spot on Main Street, and walking distance to several restaurants, and the Double R, (a BP/pub), that has great food and the biggest and coldest selection of on tap beer anywhere in the region.

From Marion, you can head for NC by way of Mount Rogers on Route 16, or Take Route 11 S to Abingdon, where you can head for Damascus, and on into NC.

Either way, you will enjoy the ride!

Thanks,
