Default TWO WEEK RIDING VACATION!

Hi Gang!
Well, I just returned yesterday from a two week riding vacation to the west. It was INCREDIBLE!!
A life long buddy and I, after having talked about doing this for over 35 years, decided that we had better "Git 'R Done" while we were still able to throw our legs over the bikes. Life, and kids, and Blah-Blah had gotten in the way, but we hooked up again a year or so ago, and the talk always turned to "our big ride".
Well, now it's HISTORY!
We set out for Mount Rushmore on Saturday, June 18th, and just returned Friday......what a ride!
We rode through New York (left out of Rochester), Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nabraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Total mileage for the trip, including touring the countryside.......4,548.
Saw sights that blew us away. The country is spectacular, and the people really go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit.
The people we met were undisputably the MOST biker friendly folks anywhere! never a cross word, an odd look, or "attitude..........just true amazement that we actually had ridden all the way!....I thought this would be a common thing, with the number of bikers out there.
The weather was clear and dry, mid 90's every day except for one on the return trip. That day the temp wa in the mid 70's, heavy rain, thunder, lightening...the whole bit. We stopped early that day, because I had to use my four-ways to let my buddy know where I was, and I had to sit on the passenger seat and peer over the windshield in order to see......to dangerous for my likeing.
Interestingly, the worse road we travelled, and the ONLY toll we had to pay was in our home state of New York! The New York State Thruway is one nasty, pot-hole riddled, piece of crap! The state governemetn should be ashamed to charge us to use it! (considering that the tolls were to be abolished once the thruway was completed......now it's just another T-A-X.
We totally enjoyed the experience, and I have complete faith in my UltraClassic....my first Harley, which I had purchased less than two weeks before leaving on this journey. She ran the trip like a true champion, and actually got better gas mileage than my bud's 1200 Suzuki Bandit. (And I had to carry all his CRAP!)
For those of you who have yet to see South Dakota and other western states.......DO IT! I can't say enough about this experience here, 'cause I'd be here all night, but I highly, HIGHLY recommend you see it all!
Be safe, well, and happy!
Frank

Wow! Sounds really great! I am truly envious. Did you get any of the required pics? Post them. Also, post more details if you can. How did you fight the boredom of driving through our wonderfully flat states of Illinois, Iowa and Kansas?
BTW, for your next trip (I know yoou're hooked and already planning the next one, consider the Smoky Mountains. I was talking to a guy at a dealership in TN and he wass bragging about how great their roads were. Said that the common joke was that their kids couldn't read, but the roads were kepr in great shape. (His words...not mine)
One of my favorite drives is coming out of Cincinnati or Indianapolis down to Louisville/Lexington. Fantastic rolling hills with a little haze over them. And then you get to the Smokey Mountain Parkway and that is just awesome. Haven't yet tried the Dragon's Tail, but it's on my list of must-do's. Anyway, that's what my best friend and I are talking about for next year.
Thanks for sharing. Art
