Default Johnstown Pa, highlight of our trip............

Seven days on our Harleys last week and Johnstown was the highlight. Left from the Eastern SHore of Md up #213 to Elkton then to the Union Tavern (Sunday bands & bikes) along the bnaks of the Susquehanna River Rt#222. From there we headed to Lancaster (hotels in town were too expensive) then over to York (Hampton Inn for $79!), dinner at the Texas Roadhouse was excellent, to Gettysburg, Chambersburg (Rt#30) and on to Johnstown. The Holiday Inn in Johnstown wanted $130 / night but we had a drink in the bar and the bartender went and got the manager to give us a room for $99. Johnstown was a great place to walk about, safe and lots of flood museum stuff, incline plane and we even walked along the old iron mill and found some guys working in the back who invited us in to explain how they were "drawing" steel to make truck wheels. Everyone in this town was extremely friendly and invited us to come back to the Thunder in the Valley in 2 weeks. They obviously depend on tourism and welcome bikers. This is a great destination for a day or two.

Zepka is definitely busy during that time, but bikes will fill all areas of Johnstown and they have festivities lined up in town (bands, beer, tent sales, etc.). If you have the chance, it's a pretty good rally to catch and some nice riding through the mountains and back roads...

Thunder in the Valley is definitely a good time. The vendors will be setup near Point Stadium, near the bottom of the incline plane in downtown. Greenhouse Park is a good place for adult entertainment in the evenings and plenty of small towns in the area have bike events as well. The whole area embraces bikers and the riding is pretty good as well.

Rally is a good time, but our back roads are great riding.
