Crossing the border into Canada is simple. To minimize waiting try to avoid crossing on Sunday afternoon or at the end of a long weekend. Passport is all you need. I can almost guarantee you will have more intense questioning and liklihood of a search when you cross into the US. I cross the border many times each year. I hope you enjoy touring in Nova Scotia. I live near the NS - NB border. Need some ideas?? Send me a note. Rob

I'm not sure if they are still as touchy, but a few years ago Canada was charging special fees, making huge delays, adding special conditions, and sometimes denying entry to anyone from the US with any arrest in their history. Hopefully its all calmed down again now. DUI will be major trouble. Misdemeanor like a disorderly can also be a big hassle. Depends on the agent.

The rules are similar for entering both countries. I know I always get the "have you ever been convicted etc" question (amongst many others) when entering the US. Regarding fees at the Canadian border, I don't believe there ever were any and there certainly are none now. I hope this info helps you with your travel plans.

We intered New Brunswick at Calais last year heading for Nova Scotia and the Cabot Trail. We presented our passports to the Lady at the booth and answered her simple questions like "why are you visiting Canada". She didn't ask any trick questions and was very friendly . Total time to cross through was something like five minutes. Two years ago we crossed at Niagra and it was about the same, except that the guy wasn't as friendly, but he wasn't an *** either. Just answer their questions and have nothing to hide and you shouldn't have any problems. Getting back into the States may require answering a few more questions but so far we've not been detained. We gave our residence and answered, truthfully, that the only thing we had purchased in Canada was food, fuel and lodging. Again, no more than five minutes once we had made it to the booth. We have enjoyed both our trips to Canada very much, especially the trip to Nova Scotia and hope to go on several more visits there. A very friendly and beautiful country.

I live in the Great White North and cross back and forth very often, never had a problem either way, like others have said, be polite, remove sunglasses, have passport ready, turn off engine (they get a bit pissy if they have to yell over the noise). Make sure your record is clear and enjoy the ride.

Ditto on the odd questioning, and if you own guns don't admit to it (definitely do not take guns across) I admitted to owning but was not carrying, just be nice and cordial....... 3 of us crossed last August. Of the 3, two of us were detained and bikes searched... only reason we could think of is the one not searched had been to Canada before, the other two hadn't... All of us from Texas... after about a 30-40 minute wait while searched we were on our way, of course the SOB that went thru the bikes turned everything upside down... He had LITTLEMAN syndrome BAD!!!! Expect the worse, hope for the best...

I don't think it has been said, but if you have a felony conviction, you are not getting into Canada, almost sure on that
