Shipping the bike out tomorrow to Milwaukee...riding down to Lafayette, IN on the 20th, plus local rides in WI w/ buddies and doing a company training thing until the wife gets to MKE July 28th...then riding western WI, on to Badlands and arrriving Sturgis the Monday BEFORE the rally. From there to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, southern Idaho and home to Oregon.
Should be a good ride; no problems when I made reservations in Wall and Sturgis. Looking forward to the legendary rides and plenty of miles with no company cell phone going off every 5 minutes.
I went there once during the rally, that was enough for me. The next time will be the week before. The riding is fantastic. I didn't get to the badlands so I plan to next time.
I was there last week. Perfect time to visit without the crowds. There were some t-shirt vendors set up and some of the vendors downtown were open. Great deals on last years rally shirts if that's what you're in to. Visited the Full Throttle Saloon. Only a few worker bees and the donkey hanging around. Camping sites and rooms in the area were no problem and the prices were cheap. Definitely different than when the rally is on.
We go the week before the rally. Vendors are set up, rooms are cheaper. You can enjoy riding through the Black Hills and take in the sights because the roads are not crowded.
