limey... You don't mention how much time you have, and Atlanta is kinda the wrong direction, but you probably will be coming south on I-25 into Colorado. The map here is a 1/2 day tour of the Big Thompson Canyon, Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park, and concluding with Berthoud Pass before joining I-70 east for the midwest. If you have days to spend, well, that would be a different map, and I would probably have you ending up at I-40 in New Mexico.

I've done this ride before and it's a very beautiful, relaxing trip. Avoid I-25 AT ALL COSTS. If nothing else, the wind in Wyoming will torment even the cautious rider.

Out of Sturgis, 385 and 85 are both amazing. Taking 385/16 will take you through the Rushmore, Needles Hwy (see my sig pic), and Crazy Horse monument if you're not hitting those during Rally.

Otherwise, I'd just take 85 all the way to Lusk, 20 to Manville, 270 to Guernsney, 26 to I-25 for 20-30 miles, and then get off on Hwy 34.

Hwy 34 is an amazing road with fragrant grass lands, canyons, and open space. No traffic.

Enter into Colo via Laramie/287

Taking Hwy 14 - No Co Rd 2 - Hwy 34 to Estes Park gets you around Ft Collins and sets you up for Trail Ridge Rd through Rocky Mountain NP.

Out of RMNP - 34 to Granby, 40 to Kremmling, 9 to Hartsel, 24 through Colo Springs and back to I70 east.

Now that's how I'd do 2 days outta Sturgis to Atlanta. YMMV. But, as the saying goes, any road in the Rockies is the best riding you've ever done.
