Hi all. I'm heading up to Nova Scotia in mid to late August. I'm going to be doing a combination of staying in motel and camping to save money. The route I'm taking from Connecticut is Rte. 7 into VT, over to Sr100 and then RTE. 2 thru VT,NH and Maine back over to SR9 to Calais. into New Brunswick.
Looking for reasonable/clean motels in NB and Nova Scotia. Also are the provincial campgrounds in NB and Nova Scotia good. I'm looking for the quiet campgrounds, nor family camping for the peace and quiet and solitude. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
We did the B&B/Motel thing last year...What a trip...Ended up at the Warf Rat Rally. Are you riding the whole Peninsula? Got some good input from this site. We started out from Dover Plains NY to NH and than to St George NB for the ferry ride to Digby.

You are going to to enjoy it for sure...
Errr.. the ferry to Digby, NS leaves from Saint John, NB, not St. George.
To the OP, if you stay on the slab - Rte 1& 2 from Calais, ME to the NB/NS border, you will miss some awesome scenery. Get off the main highways and take routes that run along the St. John River Valley or do the loop through Fundy Nat'l Park (leaves Rte 1 east of Sussex and returns via Moncton). But you're probably under time restrictions meaning you'll have to buzz right on by a lot of good stuff. Same applies to NS, and probably everywhere else - get off the highways.
If you take the ferry from Saint John NB to Digby NS, make it a point to drive down Rte 1 to Yarmouth, and then Rte 3 towards Halifax. Some of the best scenery Nova Scotia has to offer.
