Thank you all for the replys. I have been through a lot of the U.S. and never been in Canada on a bike. Figure it is time we try a new route. We have passports and all the other stuff already set and ready to go. Looking for more info about the actual Canada part. Being from Milwaukee know MI and WI good. Thanks again

Why the jog over towards Cambridge in Canada?
When you take the ferry in Tobermory, the bikes are first on and first off.
I believe you have to book the ferry trip ahead of time, in case it's a busy time.
You can check the ferry rates and schedules here: http://www.chicheemaun.com/chi/english/index.html

No reason except for that is how mapquest did it. We are planning on using that route as a guide so we will go straight instead I am sure. Thanks for catching that.

Musings from two trips through Ontario:

1. No matter what the Canadians tell you, eating gravy on french fries is just wrong.

2. It is a lot easier to get into Canada than it is to get back into the States. Don't expect US Border Patrol to be like the Welcome Wagon lady.

3. Make life easy on yourself and convert US dollars to Canadian. Their money is prettier anyway.

4. It is a PITA that the MOCO doesn't put KPH on the speedos. Either know the equivalents or print yourself a little chart before you go. Like this one: http://tbarnes.co.uk/TimsPages/CATERHAM/Kmh.htm

Yeah, I got pulled over somewhere near Thunder Bay. The Mountie kept saying "you were doing 120 in an 80, 120 in an 80". I just kept blinking and pulled a dumb look (no acting stretch there) and he told me to watch out for moose and let me go.

I really wasn't paying any attention to my speedometer, it seemed like the right speed at the time.
My first and only experience with the RCMP. Nice guy, thanks again.

and the cool thing about Canada, besides the friendly people, great parks and beautiful scenery is you can't get lost.
They only have one road and it only goes east and west.

Stay on Hwy#6 instead of taking the jog towards Cambridge. Also, there's a Harley dealer when you get to Owen Sound if you wanted to stop in.
Hope you have a great trip!

Just hop over to the Rockies well you are at it

Secluded foothills and Drumheller hoodoos. Just daydream through the prairies and 20 hours of riding to get there:P

But serious, I hope your visit to Canada brings the best out of us Canadians and makes ya feel at home.

/cheers

yes, I've done that exact route. It's a good choice. You'll find it slow going though, most of it is in and out of small towns and residential areas so the speed limit is low, not like ripping down an interstate.

My only suggestion would be to jog into Toronto and visit the Hockey Hall of Fame. Loads of things to do in toronto and the area. Take a trip up the CN tower.

Expect some cool nights with the possibly of frost if your camping mid September. Not a certainty but a possibility on the northern portion of your route.

Gun and weapons laws are different here than what you may be used to. Even if you have a permit to carry don't bring a hand gun because they will confiscate it at the border and it may get you charged. If they find a gun you did not declare at the border it gets you treated the same as if they found 1 kilo of heroin on you. Pepper spray and Tasers are also illegal here. On the other hand you won't need them anyway.
