When we got to the sign that said net 22 miles unpaved, we talked to two guys on harleys. They were probably about my age(I'm 61). They told us it was a good road with some washboard in it, but not bad. So off went the four of us went on our baggers with our luggage. I bet they laughed their *** off after we left. If Fish Creek Hill is the extremely steep 1.5 lane road that uses 2X6 for a guard rail, that descent really got my attention. I'm going back and wait at that sign and tell some baggers it's a great road. Good memories, but not on my recommend list.

Did you notice all the crosses on the side of the road at Fish Creek hill...a bit of a pucker factor.
I did the Trail 10 years ago. It wasn't bad at all. But then I was in a jeep and I wasn't driving. I remember that it may be scenic and cool, but you sure aren't looking at the scenery. Take your eye off the road and end up in the river.

lol. "Adventures suck while you are having them."
The road is rough enough and narrow enough at places where it is necessary to yield to climbers. Last time I was on it, the road was a bit rough with loose rocks and gravel that made climbing it interesting to say the least.
Well a quick google search answers that question. I was looking at the map and thought it looked like a fun road to drop down from Payson to Roosevelt and take into Phoenix.
My dad used to take me fishing down that road in the 70's.... in his Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon. Seemed like a 1000' drop on one side, & the road was so narrow in spots if two cars met, one of them had to back up.
Sounds like it hasn't changed much lol.
I do remember Tortilla Flats, and the Waterdog USAF marina.
Good times.
