Mexico
My sister is a customs agent supervisor at the Otay border and she says the things that go on in Mexico is worse then anything the ***** did in WWII.
Alls I can say is don't go, there are plenty of places in the continental US you can visit and support with your money than that chit hole. Don't buy into the media and Mexico’s visitor bureau BS.
i dont know who you have been talking to, but there are no places in Mexico you are safe. you're a fool if you think otherwise.
The site above is a routing tool provided by the MX Gov. When you open it in the top right corner is an english only tab. Click on it and the form will turn to english.
http://www.mexconnect.com/
another site for a lot of information on traveling in mexico
You Might want to spend the night in Monterrey. Try the Double Tree hotel.. They have secure parking and there are places to see within walking distance.
Or use that route on the way back and spend the night in Salttio.
On the issueof cedit cards. For your visa or permit you have to have a cedit card, a debit card will not work. Also at gas station they don't take credit cards. most gas station have hight test gas available, but some you will run across will not, so I carried some otain boost with me.
I don't know what time of the year your are going, so carry some cold weather gear and gloves. Its earier to take something off you have on, than to put something on that you don't have with you. For a seven day trip I carried 1000 dollars in pesos. and about 500.00 in green back. When you get you pesos, get about 200.00 in 5, 10. 20. and 50 note pesos. The rest in 200. 500 pesos. Use your bigger amounts at hotels and gas Staion. the lower ones in small town and shops. They may not have change.
For the toll road have you money in a pouch or pocket that you can get to the cash easy. Again my advice is to travel these toll roads as much as possible now a days. They do have speed limits , but most of the time no one cares. Wacth out for the speed bumps, they can be real hard on you bike and some of they seam to be about 5 ft tall. They have warning sign for them, but sometimes they surprize you and they do have them on the toll road.
The site I gave you for MXconnect is a ral good site for current information and advice. just ask a question and yoiu'll get a quick answer.
I you stay in large town, or mexico at the better hotels, ask the desk for a cab or tour guide to show you around. It will be worth it over the long run. You won't a have to fight the traffic with you bike, you will see a lot of place that you won't see by yourself, and it will be safer. mexico city is a bear for traffic. One other thing to keep in mined, when going out at night, would I feel safe or take my wife or girlfriend there. The answer wiil determine if you go to certain places.
If you are really adventureus I can give you a route that will take you thru the mountains to Mexico City. That 2 lanes and rurual, but you won't forget the trip. If you go to my profile and pictures you can see some of the pictures of my trip to Mexico.

I do not have a problem with it
insurance is 33 a day for full coverage theft and accident 150 a week
speaking the language would help but is not necessary
I do not have a passport been there 3 times in the last week on a new bike
people are nice police are helpful dentist is the best I have ever been to
viva la mexico
you would have to let my chick ride her bike too she isn't afraid either
dying at the hands of cartel thugs in a foreign country sounds like a lot more fun than a 80 MPH crash on the 405 freeway
WTF?
american streets are way more dangerous
we got guns, gangs, cash, and technology
Mexicans only have a strong desire to live till tomorrow
it is your fault they view you as food and shelter
big two wheeled cash cow
I would be happy to hand my bike over to a poor Mexican family
all they have to do is ask for it
insurance will cover it and they need the money more than anyone on this forum.
shame on you all for clumping the whole country into a bad light
mexico is beautiful, the ugly parts were made that way by greed, tourists, and conquistadores.
embarrassing
Howver, I would ride down to Douglas AZ, park my ride, walk across the border to Agua Prietta, buy a couple bottles of good tequila and then walk back to Douglas, put the tequila in the saddlebags and then cruise Bisbee, Tombstone and then up to Safford and north on the old 666 route, yes that was the number designated it at one time.
