Adding in some of the roads in the mountains of Colorado would complete your trip. I am currently planning a trip to Colorado and getting input from our fellow forum members. Here is that link.

Hope you enjoy your trip over here. Ride safe!

I question the route from Alliance to Denver to Grand Junction. Some members on here can make suggestions on some beautiful rides off the interstate that is worth the little extra time.

Now that you point it out, so do I.

Fennec: OK, voici une idée. This is a suggestion also using Atticus Finch's and others plan from an earlier post plus my own travels. Unless you have a a special purpose in going to Alliance, Nebraska and then to Denver and Grand Junction, there are other great ways to spend those days riding and still get to Salt Lake City in time. Denver is an OK town but not much fun on a motorcycle. So, I say skip it. I'm a big fan of Sturgis but I see you have 4 days planned there. Nevertheless, I think 3 days will do it for you. Here are 4 open days then.

1 day from Sturgis stay
1 day Sturgis to Alliance, Neb.
1 day Alliance to Denver
1 day Denver to Grand Junction

With those 4 days, consider the route below. That route I put in the link is about 1350 miles or 2173 km. Over 4 days that's about 335 miles or 540 km per day. Piece of cake and so much more fun. See what you think.

Fennec, now that I have one member that agrees I will say that if you are coming this far to ride, reconsider the Alliance to Grand Junction. I have ridden these roads and you can have so much better rides by going from Sturgis down to Colorado. I just don't think you should waste your time in Nebraska. My apologies to Nebraska. Do Colorado and Utah as time allows. In Utah, don't run low on gasoline. In Moab, Utah you will need a reservation for lodging. If you are willing to change your route, the members will give you some incredible advice.

Great advice about gas and reservations. Also, I meant to add above that Sturgis to Steamboat Springs is only about 685 km and it would be a great target for your first day. It's a cool town and you guys will enjoy it. Reservations are recommended. If 685 km seems like a long ride for 1 day remember that most of the western US is much different than the French countryside.....far fewer towns and a lot of wide open country. Do half the km's in the morning and half in the afternoon and you'll arrive in Steamboat fresh and ready to try out those French accents that American chicks love.

Im from Neb no apologies needed!!! I agree with alot here cut your time at sturgis (3 days enought) when you get to Grand Junction go south to Durango that will take to Ouray and over Million dollar highway (Red Mountain Pass) then go west at Durango tward Moab. Its a beautiful drive . I'd also go west at loveland to estes park over trail ridge road (highest paved road in colo) down to Grand Lake bypass Dever alltogeather. Theres alot of nice rides along the way to bad you cant take longer. Hope You enjoy
