Got to thinking the other day about riding to Anchorage Alaska from Washinton State...anyone done this.? What kind of climates would be along the way
Nick, didn't ride to Alaska from Washington state, but I did in 2010 from Richmond, VA. The trip was 12,000 miles over 29 days. You can read about it and see the pics in my blog site below. It starts in June 2010. You can get a good view of the climate from the blog and pictures. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks for replying..I will check your blog out. I actually live in Knoxville TN so will be riding from here I just asked from Washinton State as I though people would be more likely to ride from there than here. This maybe a few years into the future but it doesnt hurt to start planning now. In 2009 my wife and I rode a sportster from here to CA up the hwy1 and back 14 states 23 days 7201 miles in July..since then I have the bug. I was curious as to whether it was at all feasable and since you answered I guess the answer is a big yes..this seed is growing inside me and you just applied the miracle grow...thank you :-)
Well I have read an read and read blogs and reviews and it sounds like a hard tough maybe dangerous ride..so Im in. If Im going that far I want to go all the way to Prudoe bay/ dead horse...anyone ride the Dalton hwy.? I am thinking about buying an older 88 TC electroglide took make the trip as long as the engines good dont mind the body work as im sure its gonna get its fair share of dings. Im thinking fairing upper/lower, full face helmet, upgraded spring shocks no air, head light grates, mag wheels no spokes....anyone have suggestions of something I may havd missed

He is going again with some company in 2013. Google Alaskapalooza.

I did the Alaska trip from Michigan on June 5th, 2000.
I would suggest not leaving any earlier than this as we had a lot and some folks along the way told us that they had snow a week earlier.
I would assume that by now the roads are in better condition.
Your bike will endure some chips and silt accumulation.
On the return trip I did cheat a bit and rode the ferry back to WA.
Good break and time to party and rest up.
If you want a cabin (which I recommend) you need to book early.
Also, I would recommend returning home through WA and ID for some really beautiful scenery.
I am stationed here in Fairbanks, AK. Although cooler annually than Anchorage, prepare for chilly temps. Summer riding is moderate, but def bundle up and prepare for rain particularly in the southern portion by ANC etc. road conditions are average there too. Anything further north of Fairbanks is very bumpy and undulates due to the huge temp fluctuations. Good luck man. G
