The more I ride alone the more I appreciate it. True if you have problems it's much better having someone with you but the pluses of riding solo are immense. People too are much friendlier to one guy on a bike then they are to a group of bikers. A lot or people see you doing something they've always wanted to do and strike up a conversation.
A couple weeks ago I was on a solo trip. I had some weather issues and a little bike trouble, nothing serious, but it occurred to me as I was loading my bike one morning, no matter how tired you may be the night before there is nothing like the excitement of loading your bike first thing in the morning, wondering what the day holds. I have another solo trip and a group trip coming up in the next 6 weeks. Both have their advantages and I'm looking forward to both, but I must say I'm looking forward to the solo trip much more.
A lot of good info in this thread. I mostly ride alone, and in the past checked in in the morning and at night. But with no route plan location can vary a lot in 12 or so hours, I always said if something happens I may not be found for a while. But as with all life events risks are acccepted and managed. I do think I will look into using the lattitude (android find friends) in the future.
