Leaving Florida in several weeks heading to Sturgis, S. D. and wanted to layover a day to ride country roads in North Georgia and N. Carolina. Will be hauling my Wide Glide in a horse trailer with living quarters and thinking of camping at Whispering Pines campground in Morganton, Ga. Anyone have suggestions on roads to ride, or another campground? I will only spend one day exploring before moving on. Thanks for your input.
I go to eastern TN and western NC once a year to ride in the mountains and explore a few days, then head to Atlanta to a trade show. This year I added N Ga to the exploring.
I rode the six gap Ga route as detailed at tailofthedragon.com. I really liked that ride and everything around it. I have been travelling from Chatanooga to Atlanta once a year for the last 12 years and thought that was what N Ga was like. I can't believe how much better N Ga is just a few miles east of I 75.
Very nice area for the day! Take hwy 60 and you will have fun. Just be cautious of the time of day you will be coming through Atlanta. You will be taking 575 up to that area and traffic can be rough.
