still figuring out what to do for my month of august ride, am thinkin about doing a cali north coast ride. thinking of cutting over from Boise to crescent city and just 101ing it south and see how far i get. anyone with good G2 on that ride? Doing the oregon coast in sept.
Boise to the Cascades is not too pretty. US 26, through John Day would likely be the most attractive, but US20 to Burns, then US395 would be the fastest. Lakeview to Klamath Falls, then over to I5. For a real interesting ride, just north of the rest stop on I 5 at the Calif/OR border is CA highway 96. It parallels the Klamath river nearly all the way to the coast. It goes through Happy Camp. Follow it south to CA299, at Willow Creek and take 299 to the coast.
Remember that US101 cuts inland south of Eureka, so to continue down the coast, you cut back west on US1.
I rode to Crescent City from Phoenix about a year ago. Absolutely gorgeous along the NorCal and Oregon coast. Rode from Crescent City up to Coos Bay which was very scenic.
There's a highway I took from Red Bluff CA/I-5 up over the mountains to hwy 1/101 just outside of Fortuna. It was highway 36, you start out riding through horse ranches into the pines, then through a redwood forest as you get closer to the coast. 138 miles of some gnarly twisties and multiple elevation changes. Hit a few construction delays, so it took about 4 hours to get through it. Great ride, but I was exhausted by the time I made it to Fortuna.
