Default Oh My God Road

Do you know if OH MY GOD ROAD between Central City CO and Idaho Springs aka Virginia Canyon Road is 100% HARD TOP all the way? Like all of the interstate highways or the HARD BLACK TOP?

Or are parts of it hardpack?

Or parts of it dirt?

Googleman is not helping much here.

Pls answer only if u have been on the road yourself and know 100%.

I am taking several riders thru and need to know the road btr b4 going.

Thank you very much in advance,

BuzzCap7

Buzz... It is a combination of dirt and hardpacked dirt from about 1/2 mile north of Idaho Springs to about 1/2 mile south of Central City. There is a one mile stretch of pavement at the top, just south of Russell Gulch. Net, for the ten mile length of this road, also known as the Virginia Canyon Road, about eight miles are unpaved. That said, Gold Wings are known to have ridden it, and in dry conditions it is navigable by about any street bike. Just be smooth, enjoy the scenery, and enjoy the historical mines/semi-ghost towns along the way.

THANK YOU sfarson!

THank you for:

1) Actually answering my question directly and not going off the topic.
2) Being very clear in what you were saying.
3) Including 2 really GOOD vid clips.

Honestly, it is not that common to get a response as good as yours! You 'da BEST! You 'da BEST!

Since u knew that so well, (if I am not pushing my luck) do u know abt the Million Dollar Hwy? In Utah I know the Mogi Dugway is hardpack. And Mt. Evans road is all paved.

I've been on all three of those. Mt Evans is paved but in some sections had huge pot holes and washouts. You're riding along the edge of a cliff in some places with no guard rails. It's an awesome ride.

Mogi Dugway is spectacular. Take it from the north. You ride along a flat paved highway then suddenly reach the edge of a plateau. The ground drops away several thousand feet to the next level. The Mogi Dugway winds itself along the edge of that embankment. It's gravel for that part but very well maintained. Very much worth the experience.

The Million Dollar highway is a windy mountain highway. Fun to do, lots of twisty corners. A couple cool little towns along the way. Oh, and paved all the way, good condition.

All three rides are a definite must do in my books.

Zeus and Steve, THANK YOU both!

Zeus, not meaning to overdo this but I have very short legs and reaching the ground on my bagger is then basically tipping toe style. That is why I am asking about the surface of the road. You mentioned the Mogi Dugway is gravel. Is it hardpack gravel or is it the loose gravel where I would sink in and likely topple over?

When u turn the front wheel to go around a corner, do u have that digging in and sinking effect?

Sorry to hammer the point but with my not being able to reach the ground very well in the soft top surface is of special concern to me. Falling is no big deal but falling knowing there is a cliff becomes a big deal quickly.

Thank you,
