Before Ridgway you will go through Silverton where the Million Dollar Highway begins on up to Ouray which is the end. It's just a few more miles north to Ridgway. From there go west and then down through Telluride and Delores (nice highway) on down to Cortez.

From Cortez you hit Hwy 160 again which you can follow to the Four Corners monument on to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Just a suggestion. See this map:

Thanks! I saved that map. I think I like that route a lot.

That is another great route, I would just personally take canyons and mountains over the Alamosa valley area any day of the week.

That is a fantastic route. But, I would adjust it a little bit to get through Monument Valley. After the Grand Canyon I would pick up Route 66 for one of the better parts (I'm told).

Unless you're dead set on riding your Hayabusa, I would think about renting one way. You could rent a dresser and carry the gear you will need. Might be as cheap as shipping your bike back.

It's very expensive to do a one way rental. I looked into it, for a 1 week rental it was $1800 and that included a $800 one way drop off fee. If i ride mine, I could take up to 2 weeks and have it shipped back for about $5-700bux. I would rather be on a bagger but i havent quite bit the bullet on buying one yet. Not to mention i'll be able to say i crossed the country on a "crotch rocket"

Wow....is there an Eagle Rider near you? They usually rent for 95 a day. I guess it would be cool but it will be long. Good luck and ride safe.

Thanks for the post. Been planning on that same trip and was looking for an alternate route other then riding across Iowa and Nebraska again.

Planning on leaving roughly 3rd week of June for 9 days. Trying to find someone around here that wants to make the ride, no luck so far. Will do solo if I have to, gonna be 50 this year cant wait forever.

me and my best friend are heading east at the end of April for a big loop 5 to 6 weeks have fun but you have to do the million dollar hwy loop like the person said around to cortez also i i would do the 4 corners monument valley to page and stop at the north rim of the grand canyon but it doesnt open until mid May then you could run up to bryce canyon and back down to Zion and out to Vegas then head to San Simeon and stop and see Hearst castle and up hwy 1 the Pacific coast hwy to monterey..and if you have the time make a run up hwy 101 through the redwoods.then take 199 up the Smith river to Grants pass and hit I 5 down to MT Shasta then south and go through Lassen Park .to hwy 70 and down the feather river canyon .and get national parks pass .if you plan on seeing many national parks it will save you money.skip La to many people and traffic
