Renting a bike next week in Fort Myers, going to visit the keys. What are the road conditions like across the Hwy 41 through the Everglades? Is that a slow route or are there hazards (besides reptiles) that we should keep in mind?

 

just have to watch out the canadians they all seem to drive 10mph under the speed limit in the center lane.

Make sure you're doing the speed limit when you are traveling through the reservation. The tribal officers are active there. Watch the trucks on 997 hauling rocks and gravel.

South of Naples by Port of the Islands you may be able to see Manatees swimming in the river. There's lots of cool stuff to see along the way on 41. One of my favorite parts of Florida.

 

Tamiami Trail (41) is a slower route across than the alley (I-75).....but, as the above poster said, there is stuff to do on 41.......

 

Thanks guys, at the airport heading back to the cold now. Had a great trip,41 was very cool, lots to see, then 997 south was good. Keys were fantastic, great riding weather for 3 days.

Anyone thinking about doing bike rentals from Fort Myers HD, they were very helpful, good rides, very good service. No hesitation recommending them.
