2012 my group and I RODE BIKES TO STURGIS RALLYreal GOOD TIME EVERYONE HAD A BLAST, ALL SEEMS A BLUR NOW.any HOW THE GROUP IS SPILTon WHERE TO GO THIS SUMMER HALF WANT TO GO BACK TO Surgis and the other half doesn't want to spend as much money--inflated motel rates plus vacation days used coming from N.W. Ohio.Need to come up with a fun ride approx. 6 to 8 day ride. I need ideas ? Can anyone suggest any good rides coming from ohio.
For the amount of time you're talking I'd suggest one of our favorite rides; the Skyline Drive and then onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smokey Mt. Nat'l Park.
Lots of things to see there and many roads and small towns to explore and we think it's one of the nicest rides east of the Missouri River.
Yes, the Blue Ridge Parkway is always nice in the summer because it's not hot. You could do this: take 250 S/E into WV then split off on 33E into VA to the beginning of the Parkway. Take the Parkway it to the end. Then you can play around western NC, or maybe continue on down to Birmingham AL to the Barber Motorsports Museum http://www.barbermuseum.org/gallery.php Plan on spending at *least* 4 hours there.
I would suggest a ride around Lake Superior. Lots of good state and provincial parks along the way. Tons of great scenery and local culture to experience.

Also the Wheels Thru Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC!
I'm from Southeast Ohio. 3 years ago we did a loop across US Rt. 6 in Pennsylvania thru Gettysburg, back thru Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. 2 years ago we looped Lake Michigan up to Superior across the southern coast of Superior to Milwaukee and thru Chicago back to Ohio. Never, NEVER go thru Chicago. Last year we journeyed to the southern end of the BRP, rode the Cherohola, Parkway and US Rt. 250 from Waynesboro to Elkins. What a ride. Lots of good places not too far from home.
There's always a run to New England. If the Lobster are as cheap as last year it would be worth the trip. Go up the coast of Maine and then back over the White Mts. and Green Mts. Good riding and good food along the way.

Now, to just settle on where we will stay to venture out/back to everyday as we like to have a nest for a few days so we aren't riding fully packed/loaded up.
I will be touring New England (my old stomping grounds) this 2013-Summer, including; Cape Cod (Martha'sVineyard/Nantucket via either Woods Hole or HyannisPort) if requested) and Western (Berkshires) as well as coastal Massachusetts, rural/NorthEastern Connecticut, coastal/in-upland (including Mt. Washington) New Hampshire, the entire Maine coast, Vermont throughout the Connecticut River Valley (Mt. Ascutney/Burke Mountain) and N-S Route 100 to Canada I will depart Central Florida heading North in early July spending some time touring in SouthEastern Tennessee (Chattanooga/Sequatchie Valley/BO-Dunlap) before arriving in New England and beginning my tour in late July/early August thru late September (including 'off-season'/after Labor Day [I can/will extend into leaf-peeping-October if necessary/requested]) Portsmouth, NH will be my main BO/base-of-operations...I have lived-in/toured the country/back-roads/grass-roots of New England EXTENSIVELY on several/different bikes over my lifetime and I will be revisiting the best-of-the-best... I am willing to share some of my time/resources but I am not a crowd type of person, preferring small groups(2-5 [passenger-less] bikes) of adult/fun-loving/seasoned/flexible/responsible/way-cool riders to hang/ride WITH... I specialize in bang-for-the-buck(economy/efficiency), know how to have a great time while minimizing the risks and can call upon seasoned/family/friends/local riders for help if needed... I prolly will NOT be camping but will be so-prepared should the right conditions/situation/group/location jive... Several of my NE rider-contacts-resources are camping aficionados(including an Eagle Scout) if that is your bag... Many suggestions on this forum/thread thus-far are good especially the July-August-September time-frame Perhaps our paths will cross
Past extra-curricular activitiesenroute have included expeditions such as; all you can eat lobster/pot hauling, mountain/Appalachian Trail hiking, sailplane/glider rides, snorkeling/SCUBA-diving,craft beer/ale tasting, deep-sea sport fishing(sharks/tuna/ground-fish[cod/haddock]), live music venues/entertainment, plays/gardens/historical tours, camping/swimming, etc
New England can be a popular Summer-time vacation destination and a few places can be 'busy' at certain times... However, the key is to know what events to attend/skip, where/when to 'go-for-it', and most important, the 'local/back' roads... It would be a sham/shame to miss-out when some activity is expected/part of the adventure/thrill... Having lived/toured NE all my life it is still VERY doable, best bang-for-your-buck, and a lot of fun, even with the popularity, especially when you'know-the-drill'...
