The only reason that I listed taking the S&W 380 was to see what others take and if they have ever needed one. I have had mine for 1 1/2 years and have never shot a shell thru it. I have a concealed carry permit just in case i do go on a solo road trip. I have had two heart attacks, a pacemaker, and a defibrillator, so I just need something to help me out in a situation as a last resort.
I just called AAA for a quote and it will cost $110.00 for the first year and $96.00 each year after for coverage on any vehicle you are in as well as your scooter and your trailer. It will cover the cost of towing for 100 miles.
Thanks for all the information !!!

I rode X canada solo last yr. As I'm Canadian and the trip was in Canada a gun was not allowed. I had no issues with people messing with my bike but I was very worried about this at the start. I relaxed somewhat after the first week but was always cautious about where I parked. Many of the hotels had a patio door that I could park outside of.

I just bought a map as I entered each province. This year I plan to either ride from Halifax to San Fran or the Blue Ridge Parkway then north to winnipeg, or maybe some combo of the 2. I will just use maps until it proves to be a problem.

I had a credit card and enough money in the bank to cover most major repairs plus hotels.

I only met one odd person and one biker that I thought maybe a problem but over all most people were either uninterested in me or very nice.

PS, I just read your response above, I did get CAA and my bike was new enough that I was a HOG member.

Good luck

Again, I'm not pro gun control, far from it but I see so many posts on this forum about the hardware guys are carrying and it makes me think half of it is BS and I really doubt the other half that are carrying would actually be able to use it.

You are going to kill someone to prevent your bike from being stolen?

I know this is going to bring out all kinds of screaming replies and name calling but really, I would just like to know how many have actually needed it, and been able to get at it when they did.
No, I've never had to use mine. Traveling alone can make you a target. Out here in the west, it can be a hundred miles or more between towns, very desolate. There's a lot of weird things that can happen in the desert.

I am a former Marine with extensive firearms training and I carry a CCW permit that's recognized by 37 other states. I research the laws of each state I am traveling through. If I am going through CA, I leave the gun home. It isn't worth the hassle.

I'd rather have a gun and not need it than need one and not have it. Your mileage may vary.
