Me and a couple of the buds are taking a trip from Miami to Key West in April. On the return trip to Miami we'd like tocut west thru the Everglades and catch Rt 41 south of Naples and take 41 East to Miami. Question is are there Roads that cut thru the Everglades?
Any one have any road recommendations for ridin' this south Florida triangle? We're thinking 2-3 days from Key West thru the everglades and back to Miami.
If my memory serves me corectly, Hwy 41 is calledTamie Amie Trail. There is an Indian reservation along this route, when passing thru, watch your speed, they love to give fast driving awards.
I would recommend the airboat ride. While in The park, Flaming Key is a good camp spot.
us #41 is also called sw 8th street in miami , i have taken no "real" roads that cut across us #41 with-in the everglades zone..us #41 is very good during the day...outside of rush hour near the miami side, the most congested portion is on the miami side (east side) from chrome avenue (indian casino) to the turnpike during rush hour or late friday and saturday nights..you will be going thru the everglades if you take us #41...you will see plenty of alligators in the little canals on the side of the road(2 lane road)...1)smallest post office in the usa is located on south side of road about a third of the way going east from naples to miami(looks like shack) but still in operation 2) about 2 minutes further east on the north side of road is a building that you may remember from the danny glubber and joe pecci ? movie had boats in it(do not remember name) sometimes it is open but most times closed...soda and chips3) a bit further about 2/3 of the way east on the south side you will see an entrance to an everglades observation tower $ for entrance, tram tours, bicycles more alligators 4) as you enter miami you will have the casino on the left the turnpike is about another 5 to 7 miles east. get gas in naples then available half way thru the trip (one station) the again across from casino on miami side...have done this trip many times both day and night on the motorcycle by myself..kind of spooky at night..poor visibility and your bike will look like it has a carpet on it from all the dead bugs..do not speed !!! the indian police in the everglades have no problem with giving you a ticket...no real places to eat, plenty of alligators, kind of neat things to see(nature related) and history and movie related..enjoy and ride safe..careful in miami..i have lived here forever and i still can not beleave the driving
