Headed out Thursday afternoon for a long weekend through Southern and Western NM. Going to Socorro Thursday afternoon, then on Friday to T or C, Engle, Gila Cliff Dwellings, and Silver City. Saturday, Silver City to Mogollon, Glenwood, Reserve, to Datil, to Quemado and over Fox Mountain back to Reserve. Sunday Reserve to home.
Just a suggestion...
instead of taking 12 all the way to Datil and over to Quemado... take 32 at Apache Creek (just NE of Reserve) up to Quemado... its much prettier...
also... if you don't want to repeat that section on your ride you can take 180 past the 12 junction to Alpine and on to Eager/Springerville... then 60 over to Quemado... That's assuming you are taking 117 on your way back to Bloomfield...
Just some FYI 117 has some fairly fresh asphalt patches so some loose stuff will be out of the "grooves". There is also some road construction on 32...
And... between Glenwood and reserve the spray in crack seal is pretty wide and "slick" in the heat of the day... just to be aware..
Just rode to Silver City via 40-117-36-32-12-180 mid May and just got back from Big Lake, AZ ride/camping trip (just south of Springerville/Eager) last weekend.... both excellent trips!
hope that helps...
holler if you need assistance down that way... have family/friends spread between silver city, cliff, buckhorn, and in glenwood.
PM me if you want my number in case you need it...

Going to take 12 to Datil, and then go to Quemado and back over 32 (Fox Mountain) into reserve just to make a loop. We are going to come home by way of Springerville and Zuni.
Thanks for the updates on the roads. Also found out that there is a fire at Quemado Lake, so that might affect the ride over Fox Mountain to Apache Creek.
Bill, its gonna be HOT!!!!!! Head the other direction to cool cool cool Colorado!
Expecting some heat, but we ride in Colorado almost every weekend. Just wanted to do something a little different for a change. Want to visit Gila Cliff Dwellings, Mogollon, The Cat Walk, etc. Got a friend that wants to eat a piece of pie in Pie Town.
I grew up in Datil, and haven't been back in a long time. Just thought it was time for a visit.
4 bikes, 3 couples and 1,100 miles total for a great trip. Friday was cool and we even got a little rain around the Cliff Dewllings. The Gila River at the Dwellings was running good and the valley was really nice. Rest of the country is really dry. Saturday late in the afternoon was hot, but not unbearable.
Roads to the Cliff Dwellings are awesome, and especially to road from the Dwelling to Pinos Altos.
Had some cherry pie and ice cream at the Pie-O-Neer in Pie Town, and a couple of places, Sophia's in Socorro and Carmin's in Reserve had great mexican food.
