As you are crossing the Mac, if you happen to be so lucky to be riding on the grates at about 45 miles an hour, look down. It appears that the grates disappear and you're riding on thin air. Quite the illusion. Watch for cross winds as they can be very strong and come up without warning.

If you can't get a passport, you can do a nice circle tour of the UP. In addition to the Lake Superior shoreline, there's the Lake Michigan shoreline, the straits, Garden Peninsula, US-2, Big Mac, Mackinac Island and some nice open country riding NE of St. Ignace. Last time I was in Macinaw City, there was a pizza place in an old, white two story building with a Mackinac Bridge museum upstairs that had a video showing the construction of The Bridge. If you like fudge, you're in luck.
