First ride
Last week I finished my first ride on my Sportie...
Rode from Dayton Ohio to St Louis on business. In Effingham and Terra Haute there are two real nice dealers. Didn't go to any St Louis dealers..
Ride was fun. Butt was tired! The Corbin Hollywood solo wasn't meant to be ridden for 7 hours constantly!
Things I noticed:
People on long highway streaches giving me strange looks...the "what the hell is a Sportster doing out in open country" looks. Mainly from people on the Big cruisers (and Wing Kings).
Saddlebags! Someone somewhere make some for the Sportster sport! having to ride 400 miles with a backpack sucks!
having to stop every 80 miles for gas is good and bad. Good in that the world stops vibrating for a few minutes, bad if you're in the middle of nowhere looking for a gas station
Earplugs...won't leave home without them. The return trip was made infinitely easier by not having to listen to 75mph wind endlessly.
Didn't have as much problem with the throttle. I was thinking having one of those "bosses" or cruise control would have helped, but I found I really didn't need something like that.
Full face helmet = bug catcher... better it than my face!
I put about 850 miles on my bike in two days. Left thurs morn came back friday afternoon. Fun times!

850 in two days on a Sporty! Way to go. They were meant to ride. You will get used to everything the more you do trips like that.
That Corbin seat will get better, and you will soon find that you wouldn't ride anything else.

Bill

Sounds like a great ride, I bet you saw some pretty country. I would recommend the Kuryakyn ISO Grips with the adjustable palm pad. They made a world of difference for me on long rides by taking the vibration out of my hands, and allowing me to use a very light grip and still maintain throttle control.
