Default Vancouver to Wyoming... tips appreciated!

I have 9 days at the beginning of September for a road trip and I'm thinking of heading out to Yellowstone and maybe the Tetons/Jackson if there's time. I figure I can take 3 days to get to Yellowstone, spend 3 days there and the last 3 to get home again...

I've no idea what's out there but I'm a huge fan of mountains and wilderness (growing up in the UK this stuff blows my mind) and it seems like that's a good place to go for it

I'm pretty active and love camping and hiking (the steeper the better) and would be stoked to see something epic.

I'm pretty overwhelmed by the websites about Yellowstone, and that's just one park - I know I'll be passing so much more!!!

Any wisdom about must-sees, must-rides or dont-bothers that you can pass on? What about any local treasures or hot-spots that I might pass by without even knowing?

I'd be grateful for any advice that would help me plan this better - and if I'm going to pass by you make sure to holler and I'll buy you a beer!

anything, anything at all... twisties, skate parks, scenic drives, watering holes, hot-springs, hikes, look-outs, mountains, diners, venues, camp sites, motels, lakes, forests, big rocks, bike builders/shops, camping supplies (i'll need food, fuel and bear spray before I get there)

I heard Whitefish, MT was a great place to visit... any others I shouldn't miss out on?

There's gotta be some epic roads out that way... anyone?

We always stayed in West Yellowstone, Mt. You can't miss Beartooth over to Red Lodge, Mt. The worst part of Yellowstone is wonderful.

one thing I keep reading/hearing is about booking accommodation - I plan on camping most of the trip, are there plenty first-come-first-served camping spots or do you think I should still book up? I like the flexibility that comes with not having a reservation

From Vancouver head south into WA. and head west over HWY 20 the North Cascade HWY into Winthrop WA, in September you shouldn't have trouble finding camp sites.
Head south east to Lewiston Idao and take HWY 12 over LoLo Pass into Misoula MT HWY 12 is a great road full of turns and all kinds of camp spots a long the river.

Thanks for the warning, I've been checking the news for updates... Might head in from Whitefish and take Lolo home if it's opened...

Went to Sturgis via Kelowna for about 10 days round trip. Hwy 200 out of Sandpoint to Missoula was great. Liked to stick close to mtns. for twisties cause some of Montana and Wyoming pretty flat. Yellowstone was busy with touristas everywhere. Park itself is beauty. Coming back Billings was cool town, went to Glacier Nat. Park to ride Road to the Sun ... very cool! ... back up through Osoyoos to home. This time of year shud be no probs with camp spots. Yellowstone is real high so getting cold at night.
