I just rode The Dragon for the first time today. Awesome - Cherohala, Moonshiner, The Gauntlet, Rt 60, 348, Wolf Pan Gap Rd, 180 - all great. We are staying at the Copperhead Lodge in Blairsville. If you are traveling to this area, I recommend it. Nice place, good prices and conveniently located.
I've got a 3BR/2BA cabin in Wears Valley, TN. The cabin is between Townsend and Pigeon Forge on Hwy 321. Rode the dragon the last time I went by to check on the cabin. Picture in signature is from the ride on the dragon.
Place to stay off season Pigeon forge has a lot of rooms and prices drop not to far from the Dragon and a great ride through the park
Gatlinburg off season not bad some discount place to stay.
All over the area there are resort that are pretty nice Plan to ride more in the area the Dragon will not take all that long .
It is not a bad ride, try to ride early in the morning. Ride your ride and you will do just fine. Watch the pull off areas they tend to have loose ground on them and slope at bit. Let the racer type go by and if you see the car clubs coming behind you don't speed up ride your ride until you hit a pull off, they are a bunch of jerks IMO.The motel at Deal gaps is a bit run down but many like to spend a night there.
Deals gap is the place if you want to buy anything their prices are the best around.
I have been it that area a lot and it seems no road is a bad ride.
Enjoy your ride
It would have been nice to meet some of you gents,
We were there riding the Dragon on Wednesday 9/11, awesome,
Rented bikes in DC , Rode down to Fontana Resort, where we stayed for a few days, then we rode back to DC, via the Blue Ridge Parkway,
We're back in the UK now planning our next trip to your amazing country
Took a week long trip in that area last week. Stayed two nights at the Helendorf in Helen, Ga for Octoberfest. The shot over to Moonshiner 28 and rode it then on to Maggie Valley for 2 nights. Stayed at the Valley Inn, nothing fancy, but the owner is great, a fire pit with wood supplied right on the river. Rode the BRP and local roads then went to the Copperhead Lodge for 2 nights. It is a great place, Michelle is very hospitable, great food and 28 degree beer. She took us on a nice guided ride. We had a blast. The weather was perfect and can't wait to go back next year. Ended up riding the dragon and cherohala again, moonshiner 28, 100 miles of the southern BRP, and the guantlet.
