There could be snow. If so, we won't go. We decided when we started doing this that if the temps aren't at least 40*, we won't go. Same thing with ice and snow. If the weather is crappy, we can always ride south instead of north. Yes, the plan is to ride HWY 7 up to Hot Springs.
Sounds like a good time, HW 7 is one of the best roads I've been on in lower Arkansas.
Hwy 7 north of I-40 is very popular, as is all of NW Arkansas. It ain't the Rockies or the Smokies, but I'd put it (Ozark/Ouchita mountains) at #3 for those in the middle of the U.S.
Thanks, guys. Pizza place sounds good. I'll call and make sure they're open on New Years Day.
Be sure and order the "Godfather" pizza. The place is south of the race track on the west side of the road. Kind of sits back off the road in a parking lot.

Since it's a 1 day ride from Shreveport, LA going north of hot springs is out of the question for this ride. Thanks, though.
La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant
3836 Central Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71913-6903
(yeah it is a chain, but it is better than any of the others I've ever ate at.)
Used to "work" the races every year. Ate many a meal at Rocky's!!
"WORK"....Would that be as in ASP?????
Stubby's BBQ south of the track; Smokin in style west side of town on 70B/albert pike; Jack's- down from McClards on Albert pike also... Don't know about these being open on the 1st//

Just threw that part out as advertisement. Rocky's is good. Don't know that it would classify as a first class restaurant, but they serve good food....or did, been awhile since I've spent much time in Hot Springs. It is about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour ride from the house. We rode down and spent the night just to eat at Rod's Pizza a couple years ago, good excuse as any to take an overnighter!
This last summer did a ride from home to Clarksdale MS, on down to Vicksburg & New Orleans then up thru the Bayou country to Lafayette, passed thru Monroe to Hot Springs then on back to the house Took us 12 days but worth it save the 'Love Bugs' and I don't mean Volkswagons. Nice country and nice riding north of W. Monroe, a little better north of Hot Springs if you ask me on Hwy.7.
Hiway 7 north of Hot Springs has a few bends posted at 20 mph and they mean it. A couple of friends on crotch rockets accustomed to doubling the recommended speeds for the turns wound up in the ditches. Most of the time that works but unless you know the turns ahead of time, you might bend your device. Those bends may even be north of Russelville, it has been many years and I just don't remember exactly where they are. That's a beautiful, enjoyable route in that part of the country.
