Have a question for those of you who ride / live in Arizona, Wife and I are looking to spend the month of March in Phoenix area. (don't know excactly where we are still trying to lock down a place) We did this last year in Jan. and brought the bike so we could ride. I rode about every day but was to cold for the wife on a few days. Anyway my question is, can you normally to ride in the higher elevations in March. North of Payson , the Grand Canyon , Sedona , Coronada highway , those areas. We rode all over in the valley last year and would like to explore farther out.
thanks
Mountains, Flagstaff, just like anywhere that time of year could be cold and iffy at best. Coronado Trail I typically wait until later. Payson should be ok, it just depends upon the weather. It's been dry here for over a month, but who knows what March will bring.
Coronado Trail is over 9000' feet in places, I think March would be too early. We did it in May last year. Grand Canyon may be iffy that early as well. The South Rim is open year round, but may be very cold on a bike. Phoenix to Flagstaff and all points in between should be okay in March, as should most places to the East. It might be chilly up on the Mogollon Rim, though.

Road through Williams and Flagstaff at the end of April coming home from Laughlin River Run on year in a blinding snow storm and the temps were 22*. One year it wasn't snowing, but the temps were in the high 20's. Was in the Sedona area a couple of years ago in late April, and it was definitely leather jacket and chaps weather except during the middle of the day, and when we came home through Flagstaff it was 28 to 32 degrees.
I would not waste vacation days to try and ride the areas you are talking about in March.
Like everyone said Flag can be iffy and cold and I usually stay away from the area this time of the year. I just got back from a road trip Camp Verde area to Tombstone I took the Payson-Roosevelt Lake route and the weather was very nice. The mornings are pretty cold though but I have heated gear making it no problem for me.
This time of year I like, Tombstone, Oatman, Bisbee, Laughlin all warmer than central Arizona.
Flag is experiencing a drought now and it's been fairly dry but I would bet that will change.
