I went to Memphis 3 years ago. It is about the only city in this country I never really felt comfortable in. Other than that there is a lot to see a do there. Graceland is neat and the area around it is as bad as everyone is saying. I took the tour of Sun Records and really enjoyed that. The National Civil Rights Museum is worth going to. The Lorraine Motel where MLK was killed at is there and there is a whole section of the museum devoted to just that. Real interesting. Have fun but be careful. You can walk around the downtown area during the day and be the only one walking around.
Both cities are fun. Good advice given in this thread.
There was a post pertaining to Memphis several years ago. It went something like this............
The worst, most screwed-up places in the city have signs warning potential victims that they are entering a bad, screwed-up place. The signs say.........
I almost got a bike down there, but we couldn't lock in the price I needed to be at. I live right up the road in spring hill.
It's a cool dealership he built. All the stone on the front was mined from the property when he was building it. You should come down for the Dierks ride in the fall
I didn't feel like walking that night, I walked out the front door of the hotel, taxi was sitting there, jumped in and rode a couple of blocks, walked around all night, jumped in a taxi and rode a couple of blocks back to the front door of the hotel.....Is that a crime?
Laughs, it isn't a crime but very funny! I wouldn't even call it real "blocks" it is so close. You can throw a rock that far. hahaha. Taxi driver was saying to himself "what the heck?"
If the state of Tennessee was to get an enema they'd stick it in Memphis. The area just east of Memphis all the way to Chattanooga is some awesome riding.
Wife and I rode down from Canada last year.. Was awesome.. Stayed a block off Beale St.. No issues.. Never felt threatened.. Graceland was cool, not big Elvis fans but gezz, the guy was an icon..we are thinking to go back this year..
Lots of cool music history in Memphis, this city was so instrumental in the integration of blacks and whites, music didn't discriminate.. Take a chance, we did , screw the nay sayers.
opryland area (briley pkwy) is safe just older and run down, with the exception of the mall and hotel properties, they are kept up nicely. Plus the hotel has the jack daniels restaurant in it. That used to be a booming area when the theme park was there, but just a bunch of old restaurants surround it now. Boswells harley dealership is a 8 min ride up lebanon pike from briley. It's a smaaaaaall dealership but some good used bikes to see. 10 min to downtown is accurate from opryland. oh ya, don't bother running briley to 24 to 65 when trying to go downtown.... you'll sit in that construction traffic depending on the time of day, and those roads are horrific at the 65/24 split... literally might fling you off. From opry take briley toward the airport then jump on 24 toward nashville at the split. that run you downtown and get off on church street...
thanks for the advice Matt. looking forward to it. hope weather cooperates with the ride down. I've been to Boswell's before on the way to airport. Can you recommend any joints to eat at, other than the traditional tourists eateries? and do most people stick around for the CMA weekend or take off?
I'm a fan of Mickey Roos in Franklin or a Edleys on 12th in Nashville... Good BBQ at both. Stay away from Jacks on Broadway in my opinion. Too much hype over mediocre food. Also Pucketts in Liepers Fork is a cool stop

Still waiting on the actual date... Usually in October after he finishes his tour. Last year was in Nov because his wife was close to having their child so he put it off a bit. It's an awesome time. Ride leaves HD Columbia and makes it's way (not up 65) to Riverfront Park where he puts on a concert with a few other artists. Last year he had Luke Bryan, Easton Corbin and a few others. Mike Wolfe from American Pickers is usually there. Hell of a guy actually
