Nova Scotia late June
Thanks for posting the pics!
I'm in northern CT and plan on staying in Bangor Maine the first night then head to St John NB and take the ferry to Digby, explore Digby and spend the night.
The ferry out of Portland was a little pricey, takes about 10 hrs I believe and leaves in the evening, so you have to stay up all night or rent a room or reclining chair, for my wife and I it was approaching about 6 bills.
From Digby We'll head to Baddeck while seeing as much of the Bay of Fundy as possible and make Broadwater B&B our home base for four days, spending some time exploring the Cabot Trail and Bras d Or Lake area, the Broadwater has some private cabins and looks like a nice place.
On the route home we're going to play it by ear a little, probably do PE Island and then make our way home along the North Cumberland Strait and stay in Moncton or some where ther'bouts, then Bar Harbor and home.
My memory is probably failing these days, but IIRC, the cost of the Yarmouth-to Yarmouth ferry for a bike and rider in '80 was $ 75.00.
I'll never forget that as we were loading on the ferry, a young guy was pushing his Sportster back onto the ferry and complaining that his clutch cable snapped just as he was pulling off of the ferry and he had to return home and that is was a waste of $75!!
I'd guess the fare is 3 to 4 times as much now?

If you could somehow help me out with this please.
I feel the prices are WAY expensive. $139/pp plus $119 for the bike. That does not include a recliner or room or anything....
You can ride to Yarmouth, NS from Portland in about 9 hours (limit your sight-seeing or the time will multiply!) or pay for the ferry and get there in 6....
I live in Greater Portland and thought about trying the ferry but no thanks, I'd rather ride than spend all that money...yeah us Mainers are cheap I guess...
You can make it to Saint John, NB from Portland fairly easy. It's about 300 miles. Either take the highway or RT 1. Route 1 can be stop and go with tourist traffic though.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Anyone who has gone there that can help as I have never traveled there.
I did see there was a decent booklet with maps and routes to ride that i can purchase. We will also be meeting some folks who are not on bikes so will park it a few days and wonder what we can all do together.
Thank you ahead of time.

Check out Halifax water front and Maritime Museum, Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay, and Lunenburg and the Bluenose. Then head down to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. Coast line roads are the best for bikes, stay off the 4 lane. Lots of tourist centers everywhere at that time of year. Look for road signs with a ? mark. They supply free maps and info. Also you can get free info mailed to you from

I would plan to spend a day or two in Halifax. There is lots of stuff to do there and Peggys Cove, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay are all a 0.5 to 1 hour ride away.
There is also a free NS motorcycling guide but it does not contain any useful info and is mostly advertising.
The best camp grounds are the provincially run ones as well as the camp grounds in national parks. You can find them online.

The only HD dealership is in Halifax but there are lots of other places that do bike repairs.
Lots of great places to eat in downtown Halifax at all price ranges. Try a Donair while you are there. Suggest the Economy Shoe Shop for restaurants. In Cape Breton stop by the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou. It's owned by the Rankin Family (of musical fame) and is a great place to eat and see live music performed.
