Anyone with common sense and a bit of education on bear safety can coexist with bears just fine. You don't need your firearms.... don't leave them at home, just stay home. Then nobody will have any problems.

Well hell . . . eh ???

Now it's Friday evening, almost June. Tomorrow I have an appt. at the shop for front wheel replacement (rotor mounts out of spec). And then -- nothing scheduled until Thursday.

And so maybe just pack up the tent, sleeping bag and head out from Portland, OR for Blaine WA, and Vancouver BC. No particular itinerary, just out for a ride, and haven't been seriously "across the border" since about 1973.

Enjoy your trip and, if you come our way, you'll meet lots of friendly Canuks who aren't WABs and have been around enough to actually know who their friends are. Couple of episodes on Discovery Channel and you too can be a bear expert .

I live about 1 1/2 hours north of Jasper. It is 3C this morning a little cool but it warms up nice during the day. The mornings for the past week or so have been a little cool but warm up to the mid teens. Might be a little cold in the tent. I hope you have a good sleeping bag. I live in the middle of bear country and have never had a problem when camping or hunting. Hope you have a good trip.

If your going to Vancouver you should consider the sea to sky highway to whistler. Then the 99 all the way to cache creek. Awesome piece of road.

dunno about the weather up in the high country but you sure seem to think this place is more dangerous than it is, there's probably as many bears in oregon as there is up here. Both main highway's through the rockies are main roads and the likleyhood of seeing a bear is pretty low. if you don't hit edmonton this time and still want to go you can ride through the states on an interstate as well and then head north through alberta and I can pretty much guarantee you ain't gonna see a bear on the prairies between the border and edmonton! ride safe!

P.S. we don't speak french in Alberta, or BC well some might, but not out in public to someone they don't know. The area of canada where they speak french is north of new york state

Selfie in Canadian "Bearware" safety suit.

The idea is, if you're tough to chew, they may spit you out .

According to the Canadian border site, no plans to open the boarder till July 21. 2020 at the earliest but if the numbers keep rising it will stay closed for another 30-60 days at minimum.
