SE Louisiana to Pacific Northwest
100 Feet Up in a 200 Foot Redwood. The beer in my left hand is Racer 5 from Bear Republic Brewing Co. Very Good Beer!
Odd coincidence that you should ask about the camera. It was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10. It Was. Dropped it yesterday evening from near the top of a 200 foot Redwood. Got to go in to Santa Rosa tomorrow to shop for a replacement.
Battery Point Lighthouse at Crescent City
Cali Coast at Fort Bragg
Unable to check in for several days. No internet where I have been staying. Finally got good Internet at Hiouchi near Crescent City. Staying here a few days to check out the Redwoods at Jedediah State Park and the Northern California Coast before I head on up the Oregon coast.
Sure is Beautiful country. And the Roads! Cali Hwy 1 was Great! Then rode Hwy 20 between Willets and Fort Bragg --- 4 times! Then 128 for some wine and beer tasting and the Navarro Redwoods. Free wine tasting at Navarro Winery. Ya gotta keep reminding the lady, Just A Taste! I gotta ride this bike, don't want it ridin me!
These roads are Great Fun for a Flatlander! We just aint got that kinda road nowhere in Louisiana! Moved on up to Crescent City just in time to catch a Wonderful Sunset, then on over to Hiouchi for the Redwoods. Too Much Fun!
Sporty Hung In There with the Dirt Bike This Time! Ship Mountain Lookout, Six Rivers National Forest.
Great Ride yesterday! Took South Fork Road out of Hiouchi into Six Rivers National Forest. Got on Forest Service Road 16N02 and went on up to the Ship Mountain Lookout Tower.
If you don't like dirt, you won't like 16N02. It was actually a pretty good dirt road. Until the last 100 yards. Last 100 yards probably 20% grade on gravel, with a gentle bank on the left toward a cliff. Made it up OK, slipping the clutch to keep from spinning out on the gravel, but coming back down was a little un-nerving. Slightest braking on the front put it in a skid, and I was steady gaining speed with the back brake locked up. Got off the steep grade just in time. If I ever do that again, I'll just leave the Sporty at the bottom of that last 100 yards and walk up.
Great View though! Watching the fog roll off the Pacific from 5,000 feet!
Newton B Drury Scenic Drive
Rode 101 and the Newton B Drewery Scenic Drive that parallels it through Prairie Creek Redwoods from Hiouche to Orvis and back today. Very nice.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Northern California Road Hazard
Met this guy hooking some brush on the side of the road at Prairie Creek Redwoods. Think I'll just stay off the roads at night. His daddy was laid up in the shade back in the brush with a bunch of cows, but I was not going in after him with a camera. Could have gotten a good picture of him with the 30-06 though. You guys harvest these things in Cali? They were not a bit concerned about me. I personally think somebody should teach them some respect.

Haceta Head from 101 Scenic Viewpoint
Haceta Head from Sea Lion Caves
Out of California and on up the Oregon Coast on 101. Southern Oregon has some of the most dramatic coastal rock formations I have seen on the trip, but I guess I have posted enough pictures of rocks. You gotta understand, we got NO ROCKS along the Louisiana coast (except the ones they brought in for the jetties), so they are a Wonder to me!
Anyway, stopped in Florence, Oregon to ride up and down 101.
