my point is, if you ride alot, say 10 to 20k per year, the odds of a 110 failure increases dramatically.

i ride almost every day(except snow days) between multiple bikes. So 20k a year is not uncommon. this year im at 35k, but i retired june 1st and have spent most of the summer on the road working out my post retirement issues. Yeah, it happens.

in addition, im heavily into long distance riding so a 700 mile round trip for dinner with friends is not out of the question.

needless to say my 110 did not last past 18k due to lifter failure. oil changes were every 3k, Amsoil 20W50, with primary service at oil change and tranny every 10k.

i believe most of the 110 problems are valve spring, valve seat and heat related.
yeah the lifters are crap but you usually can hear that problem coming.
the 110 was an ill fated expansion of the 96/103 that created too much heat and was designed to fail.
alot of $$ has been spent to make 110s preform to its potential. A well put together 107 will outperform a 110 most days of the week. Just look at fuel motos dyno chart website its documented there.

ive had the last 110, i will ever own. in addition, i have the last CVO i will ever own. When you are clocking the miles im putting up routinely for the last several years, a standard bike purchased used last just as long and is worth just as much on trade or resale as a CVO. nobody, and i mean nobody wants a bike with 100k on the clock when you go to change it out.
I average 24K miles a year. I have a couple bikes.

Fully agree on the 110 for high mileage riders. Personal bikes, 09 CVO RG lifter failure at 46K miles. It happened two days after I traded it in. 12 CVO RG traded with 46K not sure if it ever had issues or not. 15 CVO RGU, lifter failure and new motor at 44K miles right before it was two years old. New motor installed and I traded it that day on a 17 with an M8 114.

20,526 miles on the 17 CVO Street glide when I traded for the 18 CVO road glide. Traded not due to worrying about the motor, but rather I prefer a road glide for my high mileage bike.

I still have my 13 CVO King. No lifter failure, but I built the motor with 1500 miles on it, and built it even bigger and badder with 14K miles on it. It does not have the high pressure harley valve springs or the crappy lifters. Its a riot to ride at 138 HP and 140 Torque. I will be keeping this bike, but it is my last 110.

This is why I'm making sure I have the esp and keeping the bike compliant.

Have a 2017 Ultra limited CVO with 24k on it. Just over a year and a half and dont ride in the winters. I have had no issues with mine to date but I do change all fluids at 5k. I love the bike and am hoping for many more trouble free miles but who knows. Good luck

All my bikes have always had every service, and all fluids changed every 5K miles.

I may have problems down the road. But for now this is a great motorcycle. Plenty of torgue
and with the suspension upgrade it is truly a great way to spend the day riding. It may break but until that times comes I'm gonna enjoy it and not worry.

I just rode my trouble free 110 to help my buddy with his new M8 engine oil pressure problem, LOL! Seems Harley shipped a bunch of 2017's with a bad oil pump design and the upgraded one is on back order for a few weeks. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

I ride over 40K/yr. All twin cams. from 88's to 120's with a combined total of 400+K. Never a failure. But then I do all of my own services on them. Do 12 heat cycles when new ( dealer does not test ride them they come to me with about 0.6 miles) followed up with 100 to 200 miles at no more than 50 mph. Then 3K miles of 3 to 3.5 max rpm. At that point they go on a 2 to 4 day tour. The bikes then run stronger than stock and yield 50 mpg on average even the 120R.

I did that to an M8 RGS last year and put 10K in a few months on it. After my run in was done it gets 52 to 55 mpg. Have a 18 Fat Bob S with the 114 M8. Can't wait to see what it does.

I am very impressed with H-D. I was 65 before I bought my first one. Prior to that I had 30 some metrics 22 of which were Honda's up to the VTX1800 and Rune. The others were Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and even a Norton.

None have been as rewarding and satisfying as the Harleys. With 61+ years of riding I know what a good bike is.
