Default got a high temp light

I had the bike out all day on Saturday, maybe did 400 or so miles all day....no issues

i took it out yesterday and after about 40 minutes or so, the high temp light came on, I wasn't far from home so I pulled it into the garage, let it cool, cleared all the codes and took it back out later, after about 10 minutes or so, the indicator came back on

anything i can check myself easily before I call the fellas up at the dealership?

is the coolant level low or reservoir empty by chance? even if it is and you top it off or perform a different DIY fix I would want that inspected and documented by a dealership in case problems continue to surface, good luck

if I need to add some coolant, there is a way to cycle the coolant to make sure air bubbles aren't in there anywhere, isn't there?

not sure but there are instructions in my OM on what to do if it falls below the Add / Cold mark...I would think one could just add enough to get above that, ride to full op temp and it would settle then add enough to be midway or as needed..or sumpin' like dat'

here's what I know so far

it's easy to check the coolant level in the reservoir, just put a light behind it, and it's translucent enough to see through it
it was near empty, i added enough to where it was just above the line where it should be at when cool

you bleed out air bubbles by turning the throttle over half way and turning the ignition on, this turns the fans on and cycles the pump

afterwards, i took it for a quick run, but enough to get it nice and hot

the coolant level went up a bit after it warmed up, it's reading just above the max level line....no temp warning, i'll keep an eye on it and I'll run it past the fellas at the dealership as well

I can't see a leak anywhere or a place where it looks like it could have been leaking

good deal, I have viewed mine the way it states to and like you mention several times and it hasn't budged since new, mainly since it's a new design...and because well, when I checked my trans fluid and was the first who reported it here that it was low way back when the M8 first came out, we all know what happened after that .. I would wonder why yours 'consumed' some but good idea checking with service and monitor

Apparently your bike hasn't figured out that you're due for many 1000s of trouble free miles after the crap you've had to deal with so far sir.

I hate to even ask, but with level down and no visible sign of a leak, is there a flow path for a coolant leak through the heads to the cylinders? Noticed any smoke out the exhaust or signs of coolant in oil? I haven't looked at the coolant flow through the heads to know if it's even possible, but I'd be hitting the dealer up hard to rule it out if it continues losing fluid and nothing else is found.

You might want to have them check the water pump. I got a high temp light and check engine light on my Triglide and the water pump had failed

after I took it out and got it nice and warm, as I mentioned earlier, the reservoir level went up to just a bit past the max line.....about an hour or so later it had receded to just above the minimum line where I'd topped it to earlier

I took it out last night for a couple of hours, the coolant level appears to be holding steady, but I'll keep an eye on it

if anything squirrelly happens, i'll get it in right away....otherwise, it will be going in for the 5k soon and I'll mention it and have them pressure test and check it out

I don't expect you'll have further issues with this, you basically did their job by purging the system.
