I'm thinking about doing heads (Bean) and cams on my SE Fat Bob as I don't seem to be able to sell it. I know the 07 and 08 110's had some issues. I haven't heard of any problems with the 09 engines. Assuming HD resolved the issues with the earlier 110's, will the "fixed" 110's accept head and cams work and do it reliably? If so does anyone want to recommend cams. I did the BB on my 08 SG and used Andrews 54 H cams. They worked great but I don't know if they would work as well on a lighter bike like the SE Fat Bob with bigger engine. Opinions please?

The cams I used are woods cams, but I am second guessing them now, and after MUCH research I have decided to go with either the Andrew 54H, or a Dave Mackie TC575L, both compare well, with the difference being mostly in the overlap in the timing, both are designed for 2500-6000rpm. I tend to shift now at about 4500-5000 when gunning it, because after several dyno runs it has been proven that the woods cams in my bike fall off at about 4800, so anything more than that is a waste of fuel and time. As far as the heads go, I have not heard of any issues with reliability on any ported heads, But I have not researched that either.

The Andrews Rep that I talked with about cams recommended the 54H and stated it was designed for the 110"

Andrews site clearly states the 54H is designed for the 96 engine. Just to comment on this cam. I have extra cubes, 96 to 103, street ported heads, bumped the compression to 9.8 by using .030 head gaskets and had it SERT tuned by a guy who's been tuning for 20 years. I agonized over cams for months. One engine builder said he did several 96 and 103 engines and used the 54H cams. Basically said these cams perform badly with true duals and 6th gear was rendered almost useless. I had already decided to use the 54's until I read that post as I have true duals. Back to agonizing. Anyway, I eventually started a personal conversation with several people using the 54's and they contradicted the said builder. Long story short I went back and got the 54 cams. I've never looked back. 96HP 119TQ. I'm sure the cams weren't everything as I did other noted mods. The last conversation I had with one of the guys I was talking to, left me with this piece of advice "you will lose nothing with the 54 cams, you will have every thing you had before just a whole lot more of it". He couldn't have been more right. I am leaning to the the 54's in my 110 but want to check cams out as they relate to the 110.

Contact Andrews, Woods, Dave Mackie, S&S, and see what they would recommend, then compare each of them side by side and determine what cam is gonna be best suited for the results that you wanna achive.
I contacted them and this is what I got for recommendations
Andrews = 54H
Dave Mackie = TC575L
Woods cams = NO RECOMMENDATION
S&S = NO RECOMMENDATION
Harley Davidson = SE253 or SE258
Woods would not make a recommendation because I already have their cams in my bike and I am not happy with them
S&S would not make a recommendation because they wanted more tech data on my build, hey it was stock 110" with aftermarket pipes and air filter, how much more data do you need.
if you go to "big boyz head porting" on the website , they have a cam comparisan chart, you can look at three different cams at one time and compare every spec to each other. its a wonderful tool in helping make the choice, in my opinion I would look at mackie's 598 cam for your 110 and your headwork, but do something with the compression, at least flycut the heads to raise the comp.Or thin head gaskets
Oh yea, check your flywheel runout when you do the cams, one thing is the flywheels do turn in the 110. I'm getting mine balanced, trued and welded, to make sure the rest of my build lasts, thats not that much money really, a number of companies do this, only a few do it right, revolution performance is one of them $450. for the complete service, and if you want the timkin brg upgrade its anothe 350.00 I think, But when you're done your motor will last for a very long time with no worries of losing the oil pump and everything else
