Default Question regarding death skull on 2013 Breakout

Hey folks,

I have been puzzling over this ever since I saw the picture. The motif for CVO has always been the Screamin' Eagle, yet there is a death skull on the tank of the Breakout.

Then it occurred to me. Does anyone else think this is tribute to Willie G? I know he had his hand in all of the CVO designs and I'm wondering if this is a final send off for him perhaps?

Not sure if that's the case, but the 2012 CVO Road Glide uses the WG Skull theme as well. Looks pretty bitchin' in my opinion.

To answer your question: No......it's just a design style.

Default Memento Mori

The "death skulls" and the whole skull genre actually represent memento mori, or "remember your mortality". That's why you see so many skulls, skeletons, etc. on old gravestones and in older artwork/literature. The skulls represent the notion that one should enjoy their life, as we will all die...nobody lives forever. The Harley skulls aren't meant to be "badazz" or threatening, just a reminder that riding a Harley is one of the joys of life...so enjoy it as often as you can while you are still alive! Just my $.02

excellent explanation! I wondered why I see so many skulls on old gravestones-always seemed very morbid to me but now I understand the reason for them.

thanks.....

OK, I must have missunderstood. I thought Willie G. was the one who started the death skull motif on Harley designs several years ago. Heck even in some of the periodic accessory manuals I get, there are pages that say "The Willie G. Collection" and it's all kinds of death skull items.

So I just assumed they put it on the 2013 CVO's as a way of seeing him off for his last designs. I have never associated CVO's with the death skull design before, hence my question.

thanks.
