Default Who do they design bikes for?

We went today to look at a new CVO Ultra Glide.
An absolute jewel in design and a flattering array of colors.

I liked most everything about the bike with the exception of a few, simple accessories that I would have added to the bike.

However, when I asked if I could sit on it, I was greatly surprised and disappointed at how the handlebars seemed so far away, and almost a 2"-3" reach for me while in what I would call a natural riding posture (at least for me).
I'm not a little, or a short guy.
I'm a tad over 6'-2" (or used to be) and I wear a 34"-35" shirt sleeve.
When I put my hands on the handlebars my back barely reaches the rider backrest and I feel as though I'm slumped forward.

If I buy the bike I'll either adapt to the stock bars or (more likely) install a new set that better fits my reach.

I agree strongly with your point. I would bet most riders find the bars a stretch and it is simply a money grab deal for Harley to sell you their 2" extended bars.

What? You mean the MoCo expects you to spend more money to make the CVO fit you? Now that is funny.

Maybe the MoCo has people monitoring these forums and will........nevermind

Also, it is hard for me to believe that they are not doing these things intentionally in order to encourage accessory updates.

For instance, the tour pack lid hinges.
THey are still using those cheap looking ones (even on the CVO bikes), but for $$ you can buy an extremely nice replacement hinges (which I WILL buy) that matches the locks on the other side of the tour pack lid !!!

BTW, check your hinges occassionally.
(With the lid closed, try lifting the lid, on the hinges side to see if you get any up-down movement).
For years I had a rattle that I couldn't seem to find.
It turned out to be slack (wear) in the hinges which eventually caused wear on the locks and I had to buy locks and hinges.

Yep, I know what you mean but I have to ask you have you had a backrest before? I did and all I did with the CVO backrest was turn the allen screw and adjust it up a little from the fully lowered position. The wife was not impressed at all with her seat as she said it pushed her too far forward. I raised the trunk lift, adjust the know all the way down and after I put my back rest up one notch she was very pleased. Now I don't feel like I am stretched halfway across the bike to rest my back and it fits me more snugly. I am 5'10 btw.

All Harley handlebars feel that way to me (except for the Heritage model).

Got the bike yesterday evening.
A beautiful day....to ride a new bike home.
Sunny, 86 degrees (I've rode new bikes home in the rain and snow).

Getting ready to got out in the garage and play on the bike for a while and then run it by the local watering hole for "peanut gallery" to critique.

I'll adjust the rider back rest as suggested.
I will also need a taller windshield as the stock one is about 1"-2" to low for me.

As stated earlier, I had the nice tour pack lid hinges installed.
As well as the tour pack rack eye-level brake light, the saddlebag rails with lights. and the chrome trim accent rings on the head and passing lamps.

Got new duals and "catless" pipe on order.

Later on (when funds are available) I will install he brightest brake/tail lamo that I can find, and change the turn signals to red lenses and make then turn/brake/tail lights.

The wife wants a fender tip light, and for allowing me to buy this bike that light can be PINK for all that I care!
