weather radio alert

I can't seem to program the weather channel alert, Ive gone through what the owners manual says but the little alert sign does not come up,weather channel comes in good,any ideas???

I want to have it working for Sturgis 2013 as we were there in 2009 when they had a major hail storm and lots of damage to my bike and many others,thinking with the alert might have chance to get under cover

It's only smart for travelers. I'll be watching. My bike is new to me and I have the kids help me with the radio.

All I did was get a channel that it picks up and when bad weather comes in it automatically changes no matter what I am listening to.
I have never noticed alert icon unless I am picking up for bad weather.
