Anyone had any problems with the super cooler by hd. This one mounts below the voltage reg. It get the crap beat out of it from road debris. Maybe a deflector would be in order. I know they (the motor co) started mounting them there in 03.I really hate the idea of having to put on a mud flap to protect the thing. The fins are taking a beating
Yes and they switched from JAGG to a cheaper manufacturer in 2006.
Mine craped out on my way home from Sturgis. Seems like it was $400 or so for MOCO's Premium. I replaced it with a Vertical Mount from JAGG, thermostatically controlled. Less expensive and more efficient. JAGG has great customer service.
Stupid placement by MOCO. The vertical mount just gets air, and a few bugs!
I wondered about that. I've been thinking of adding one to my bike but if I do, I'm either gonna rig up a rubber mudflag on the front fender unless it looks too fugly or mount the oil cooler higher on the frame out of harms way.
No leaks from the cooler yet. Had one of the hoses break due to the installer (and I use that term loosely) not routing the clutch cable correct. Loosing all the oil at 80 mph = not fun.
It does get plugged up by the crap that the front tire kicks up.
Just gotta remember to clean it out every once in a while.
That having been said, I am on the lookout for something to replace the cooling unit.

I bought a billet aluminum from Wimmer Cycles. I didn't think that the radiator type would last down there.
I made a bracket to mount the cooler below the regulator and have run it for at least 5000 miles. No problems. It would take a brick to damage it. I had added a oil temp and pressure gauge before. I moved the temp sensor to the return line from the cooler.
